December 18, 2017: Education and “Thought-Control”: The Crisis that Confronts Us

Ten days ago a story appeared in the news that the University of North Carolina system Board of Governors was investigating the possibility of creating, according to the leftist local newspaper, The News & Observer, “a conservative-leaning center at UNC-Chapel Hill that they say would foster debate and achieve more intellectual diversity.” A delegation of board members had made a trip to Princeton University to learn more about the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, directed by Dr. Robert George, with the possible goal of establishing such a center at UNC at Chapel Hill.

According to board member Joe Knott, “We are trying to address a problem that seems to be endemic in higher education all across the United States in that the universities seem to be moving toward a mono-culture…. There’s a lack of diversity in viewpoint, intellectual viewpoint.”

December 17, 2017: Special Counsel Robert Mueller Should be Fired and His Supposed “Investigation” Terminated NOW

The past two weeks or so have demonstrated what some of us have been saying for months: it is past time that the Office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller be shut down, shuttered, the contracts of those rabid, ultra-Left Democrat and pro-Hillary Special Counsel attorneys, including Robert Mueller himself, be tossed into “file 13,” and those zealous political apparatchiks be given their walking papers. The so-called “investigation” by the Special Counsel has become—has been—not just a veritable Keystone Cops joke, but is evidently and patently part and parcel of an immense and determined effort of historical proportions, now more visible than ever, to “get” President Trump and derail his agenda. It is, as others including Patrick Buchanan (back in August) have said, a multilevel, frenzied and vicious attempted “silent coup,” the likes of which have not been witnessed in the history of this nation, at least since the extra-judicial abrogation of basic constitutional rights by Abraham Lincoln 155 years ago.

The forces behind this “silent coup” are what we identify as the Deep State, that loose conglomerate of dominant political and financial power in the nation—those foundations, think tanks, publications both online and in print, those un-elected managers and DC bureaucrats, the punditocracy, congressmen and their staffs, political consultants and high dollar donors, most of Hollywood, and the near entirety of academia and our “educational establishment”—all working more or less in tandem, although with some degree of autonomy.

December 15, 2017: Christmas as the Season of Giving, Modeled on the Greatest Gift of All: And Some Gift Recommendations (Part I)

We are yet in the Season of Advent, but Christmas will soon be upon us, and as beautifully illustrated in the ancient Roman liturgy, our hopes and anticipation rise as we approach closer to that wondrous day celebrating the birth of Our Savior, the Incarnate Christ Child—one of two critically significant days that changed forever human history and destiny (the other being Easter).

From time immemorial it has been the custom in Christian lands to give gifts, to give presents to our loved ones and dear friends. In a sense, that custom mirrors the Greatest Gift of All, the coming of Our Blessed Lord in a lowly stable in Bethlehem of Judaea a little over two 2,000 years ago. On our human level we express and share that joy with other humans.

Yesterday, as I scurried about searching for some age-appropriate gifts for my two young grand-nephews, fighting the crowds and the horrific traffic, I got to thinking about this wonderful tradition and just what it means, or, at least should mean: not just the onerous obligation “to get something” for Uncle Bill or Cousin Jane, not just the requirement to get out in all the hurly-burly and swirl of frantic last minute shoppers. But the very real joy of showing Our Savior’s love in us by sharing it with someone we love. Indeed, the joy occasioned by our giving in some ways outweighs the joy in the eyes and expressions of the recipients of our gifts.

December 13, 2017: The Moore Defeat and the End of the Republican Party

Yesterday in Alabama the Republican Party lit the fuse that will blow it up and possibly destroy it. That auto-destruction has been in the making for some time; one could even argue that ever since the presidency of Ronald Reagan there’s been a just-below-the-surface death wish within the GOP. But the extremely narrow defeat of US Senate candidate Judge Roy Moore in Alabama, the reddest of “red” states, by a leftwing, pro-abortion, pro-same sex marriage Democrat, Doug Jones, revealed that festering chasm, that unhealable division, that raging civil war, as never before.

Of course, there will be those who argue—and rightly, with some facts and reason—that the Moore candidacy and the issues swirling around him personally contributed mightily to the defeat. The all-of-a-sudden appearance of over a half-dozen women, claiming some form of sexual harassment, despite it having taken place—supposedly—forty years ago, took its toll in support for the judge. And the massive injection of hundreds of thousands of Hollywood pro-Jones dollars, and a frenetic get-out-the-black vote campaign, certainly helped do him in.

December 12, 2017: The Multi-Sex Army, Sexual Revolution and the Deconstruction of Western Christian Culture

Welcome to the world of multi-sex army barracks and trying to figure out if your buddy next to you in the foxhole is either Gerry or Geraldine. That’s what our judicial system just decreed yesterday.

The news was widely reported Monday [December 11] by CNN, Fox, MSNBC and by other venues that a Federal judge had blocked President Trump’s directive halting the enlistment of transgenders into the American military that would have put their admittance into the armed services on hold. As CNN phrased it in its lead reporting:

“A federal judge on Monday declined the US government's request to put on hold an order allowing transgender individuals to join the military beginning in January. The decision means transgender people will be free to enlist in the new year…So far, two federal judges have blocked key provisions of President Donald Trump's prohibition on transgender individuals serving in the military, which was announced in August. Last month, Marvin Garbis in Maryland wrote in a 53-page ruling that currently serving transgender service members were "already suffering harmful consequences" and prohibited the administration "from blocking those challenging the ban from completing their medically necessary surgeries." Another federal judge had blocked portions of Trump's directive in October.

“This Man’s Army” is not going to be what it once was. And let’s add: It’s not specifically about women—traditionally, they have been grouped in their own military corps—WACS and WAVES, made famous by feats during World War II. Women in the foxhole or in a scorchingly hot desert oasis is one thing—at least you know that the person next to you is a female, born and bred, and you take the proper actions as dictated by military law and the traditions and customs of our Christian view of such things.

December 11, 2017: Imposing Revolution and the Perversion of Our Culture: Language, Democracy and Education

The late Lord Kenneth Clark, in his famous “Civilization” television series from the 1970s, once said: “if something is too silly to say, you can always sing it!” Indeed, as we survey the fetid pile of completely absurd, inane and now revealed “fake news” stories that surfaced last week about the so-called “Russians Did It!” narrative, perhaps if we had a comic opera composer of the stature of, say, a Gioacchino Rossini or Gaetano Donizetti (from 19^th century Italy) in our midst—or at least, perhaps, a good ole’ Grandpa Jones from Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry—that might could happen. But, sadly the days of great comic opera are past…and Grandpa Jones has traveled on to that great cornfield in the sky!

Still, you have got to wonder.

After attending traditional Latin Mass this past Sunday (I refuse to attend the New Mass, as I believe it dangerous to my spiritual health), a friend asked me: “Boyd, does the news media think we are complete fools? Do they think that after all this week’s reports, these examples of ‘fake’ news, that we would take them seriously, that we would not somehow see through what they’re trying to do with this Russia thing?” My response was twofold: first, yes, they continue to believe that many, if not most Americans will believe the fakery they spew forth as “news” and as truthful. And, second, the sad fact is that millions of Americans have been so conditioned over the past several decades that they do accept and believe much of what is spewed forth.

December 9, 2017: Latest Details in the Alabama Senate Race and the Deep State Effort to Stop Judge Roy Moore—by any Means Available

Friday night, December 8, speaking in Pensacola, Florida, President Donald Trump came out foursquare in support of Judge Roy Moore for US senator from Alabama. Just a couple of hours earlier “Fox News All-Star” panelist Steve Hayes, of The Weekly Standard, joined Republican Senators Cory Gardner, Jeff Flake and Ben Sasse, from earlier this past week, in attacking candidate Moore, at least one last time before Tuesday’s election. There were in Hayes’ voice both snotty condescension and worried desperation as he pontificated on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Friday night.

Hayes partakes of what I have called “the Romney Rule.”

After several women came forward miraculously to accuse Judge Moore of sexual harassment back on November 10, Mitt Romney tweeted: “Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections. I believe Leigh Corfman. Her account is too serious to ignore. Moore is unfit for office and should step aside.”

December 4, 2017: Will Michelle Obama Run for President in 2020?

Just when you thought “they” had gone away, maybe receded into the not-so-distant past, all of a sudden a prescient columnist writes something that startles us, brings us back to jarring political reality—and a distinct possibility that those we thought departed may indeed be coming back.

No; I’m not talking about the Clintons. They have been around since the late 1980s on the national scene, occupying various positions from the presidency to Secretary of State, with Hillary playing an in-character Lady Macbeth to President Bill’s lascivious and predatory monarch. It was she—to continue the Shakespearean analogy—who wielded the bloody dagger, whether dealing with those infamous “bimbo eruptions” or overseeing the raking in of the millions in “Clinton cash.”

December 3, 2017: The Flynn Deal as A Reminder of the Goal of the Deep State “Russians Did It!” Strategy

By now you have certainly seen and digested some of the reports about the General Michael Flynn “plea deal” with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Since Friday—two days ago—the Mainstream Media has been in literal convulsions over the latest events surrounding the “Russians Did It!” investigation.

It was a roller coaster ride: going from unhinged exaltation and delighted excitement when ABC’s senior reporter Brian Ross announced breathlessly Friday morning that, essentially, Mike Flynn was “turning ‘states evidence’ against Trump and revealing that Trump had ordered him to deal [“collude”] with Russia during the campaign,” to a following mood that mirrored the “slough of despond” (to steal a line from John Bunyan)—a  mood of despair and disillusion—when they found out that Ross had basically made up the story, that it was so fake that even ABC had to  issue a correction (and “suspend” Ross for four weeks).

December 2, 2017: More on the Steinle Verdict and the Long-range Implications for the American Nation and Our Culture

Although the recent plea deal engineered between General Michael Flynn and the Office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller has—at least amongst the Mainstream Media—driven the news of the Senate passage of major tax reform and the verdict in the Kate Steinle case off the front page (e.g., The New York Times), those two topics are arguably far more significant and important to Americans in the long run than the continuing hysteria and endless accusations which only confirm the sheer nullity of this “Russians Did It!” investigation.

As we have seen from the beginning, the “Russians Did It!” canard is grounded in bare-knuckled political motives, nourished by political rumors, with a base and calculating political end. And that end is to at the very least weaken and immobilize the president, if not unseat him. It is part and parcel of an immense attempted “silent coup” in which the Mainstream Media, the Democrats, many top-level Republicans, and Neoconservative NeverTrumpers are all working in tandem as minions of the Deep State in its efforts to regain momentum lost due to last year’s election.

December 1, 2017: The Kate Steinle Verdict and the Failure of American Conservatives and the GOP

After the decision by a San Francisco jury in the Kate Steinle murder case and the acquittal on all murder charges of the five times illegal immigrant and seven times felon, Jose Garcia Zarate, American citizens—at least the ones who still care about the rule of law and about the future of this country—should be rightfully outraged. Not even found guilty of the lesser murder charge, involuntary manslaughter, which given Zarate’s defense should have been what he might have hoped for—the California jury found him innocent on all counts of murder, with a slap on the wrists for possession of a purloined firearm. That’s it. And the jury was not even permitted to take into consideration the illegal Mexican’s history of criminality—repeated felonies and multiple illegal entries (each time returning across the porous California border to commit more crimes).
